Matisse has over 30 years experience dealing in international furniture and interior fit-outs. Sourcing high quality, future proof, sustainable designs and creating inspirational places to work and live. With a shopping catalogue bursting with pieces to covet, from B&B Italia to Cassina, it’s the stuff of Pinterest boards.

The problem was that the Matisse online shop window had fallen behind in aesthetics and functionality.

Among other objectives, there was a pressing need to sharpen up the website's overall style and user experience, as well as provide the ability to sell direct from the website — to maximise on the growing opportunity to offer an e-commerce solution for items that were carried as 'ready to ship' stock. Essential improvements to keep the brand ahead of its competitors.

Beautiful. Functional.

The project brief called for a beautiful user interface (UI) design, underpinned by outstanding user experience (UX); it needed to intuitively showcase the product range not distract from it, and importantly speak to Matisse’s authority in the industry as a design-space leader.

Another key aspect was optimisation. The website and its content needed to be structured, organised and built to maximise on search engine visibility. This would be critical in driving customers to the updated website.

The project required an extensive discovery and UX design phase; defining the multiple audiences, their needs, and a website architecture that would allow users to complete goals efficiently. This was coupled with a slick UI design system that elevated the customer experience to a level on par with the products they were on the website to browse.

Flexing across three audience segments; Residential, Multi-Home, and Commercial, and allowing product browsing through multiple streams including product type, function, brands and designers, the website offered effortless pathways to discovering the right products, as well as creating a solid basis for implementing a successful search engine optimisation strategy.
